Light, bright gold. Slightly leesy aromas of poached pear, buttered toast and spices. Rich, ripe and supple, with a chewy quality to the orchard fruit, orange and mineral flavors. A building spicy element gives complexity to the finish and adds a vibrant touch to the deep fruit flavors. Give this some air.

The Sweetwater Vineyard is one of Rochioli’s newest sites, and the 2008 Chardonnay Sweetwater Vineyard (also from an old Wente clone) exhibits lots of minerality in addition to more white peach, quince, creme brulee, and mango characteristics as well as an overriding sense of crushed rocks/wet stones. It has a full-bodied, powerful personality reminiscent of a white Burgundy, only riper. This cuvee should drink well for 5-6 years. This is another beautiful portfolio of wines from Tom Rochioli. Since they all possess a similar style, one can quibble over just how much difference there is between all the different cuvees of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. However, there are subtle differences that I will do my best to articulate. With respect to his Pinot Noirs, Rochioli completely destems his grapes, does a cold soak for 4-5 days, and keeps the wines in 100% Francois Freres French cooperage for 14-16 months or less.
