Punteggio 93+/100 · Da bere 2026-2050, Neal Martin, Aug 2021

The 2009 Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte Grand Cru was poured from one of a handful of jeroboams produced by Bouchard Père & Fils. Perhaps the large format plays a part in the showing of this wine, since it is backward and tight on the detailed nose, with an underlying sense of mineralité , yet almost entirely eschews the character of the growing season. The palate is well-balanced and precise, nearly Meursault-like in terms of texture, the richness belatedly showing on the persistent finish. Very fine – but patience required.

Bright pale yellow. Steely aromas of apple, minerals and warm stone. Voluminous and powerful, with fat flavors of pear, menthol, crushed stone and iodine. Most impressive today on the very long, broad aftertaste, which saturates the palate with lemon and crushed stone. This boasts the sheer size and scale of a Montrachet.

Delicate lemon and oatmeal creaminess. Very inviting and promising on the nose. Much less open on the palate. Tense and determined. Fine-grained texture and long but rather introvert on the palate. (JH)

Pale, bright yellow. Reticent but complex nose hints at lemon, lime, iodine and crushed stone, with complicating notes of ginger, quinine and white pepper emerging with air. Large-scaled, classically dry and powerful in a Montrachet way, with rather austere flavors of crushed stone, pepper and iodine dominating today. Showing more oak today than the "regular" Chevalier-Montrachet and harder to taste. This will be slow to evolve.
