Note di degustazione
The first flight closes with the 2005 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, a wine from a challenging year marked by heavy rain. Nervy in feel, the 2005 remains somewhat compact. Early mature notes in the bouquet suggest that the 2005 is best enjoyed over the next 7-10 years. This is a rare vintage in which Soldera did not hit his customary level of excellence. From the Riserva-only period (post-2000), 2005 is the only vintage in which Soldera bottled and released his Pegasos, a wine that matured on the early side.

The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is delicate, floral and medium-in body, all of which make it an excellent choice for current drinking. This is an especially gracious, lifted, silky Riserva from Soldera.
My most recent tasting of the 2005 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva revealed a somewhat slender, compact wine by Soldera standards. The 2005 offers lovely overall balance, perfume and freshness, but not quite the visceral thrill that makes Soldera's finest wines so alluring.
A tense, brilliant wine, the 2005 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva stands out for its gorgeous length and impeccable balance. Next to the surrounding vintages, the 2005 is a bit compact, but it nevertheless possesses terrific cut and precision, if not quite the pure seductive power of the very best years.
