Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2014-2023, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2014

Intense and powerful from the outset, the 1995 Paleo Rosso graces the palate with dark cherries, mocha, tobacco, cedar, smoke and tar. The flavors are broad and expansive, with notable depth throughout. This is one of the more intense, full-throttle Paleos in the tasting, yet all the elements are very nicely balanced. The voluptuous finish is pure sensuality. In 1995, the harvest was on the late side, which resulted in a wine graced with layered fruit and exceptional overall balance.

90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Sangiovese. Pretty hot. September rain delayed harvest. Very dark ruby. Hot, almost baked nose. Nice balance and freshness on the palate – really a very attractive blend. Interesting! Subtle. But slightly cheesey. Very different from the modern, super-clean precision in today’s Paleo. (JR)

The dark plum/purple-colored 1995 Paleo (85% Sangiovese and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon; 100 cases for the USA) offers a striking nose of melted road tar, cedar, leather, strawberry jam, and kirsch. In addition to the splendid aromatics, the wine possesses a chewy texture, medium to full body, a silky palate, ripe tannin, adequate acidity, and a long finish. It should drink well for a decade or more. A Leonardo Locascio Selection, Winebow, Hohokus, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620

Good full red-ruby color. Aromatic nose of plum, currant, minerals and cedar, plus a suggestion of cigar box. Silky, thick and very concentrated; exhilarating fruit is supported by sexy oak spice and nicely embedded acids. Impressively long finish features lush, sweet tannins.
