This is the first release of Ch. Margaux’s new white wine – Pavillon Blanc Second Vin, a second wine to complement Pavillon Blanc. Sauvignon Blanc has been produced at the estate since the 17th century, and since the 2008 vintage a mere fraction of the property’s fruit has been used for Pavillon Blanc. Now, some of that fruit is being used to make a second white wine, made in exactly the same way and style, just with parcels that don’t quite make it into Pavillon Blanc. In 2022, the team started picking the Sauvignon from 18th August – the earliest harvest in their history – and produced a mere 8,000 bottles of this wine (the same volume as Pavillon Blanc). Given the quality of Pavillon Blanc, we’ve got no doubt that this is a stunning white that lives up to Margaux’s outstanding reputation.

Grip and tension, this is not quite at the switchback-acidity levels of 2021, but there is a beautifully lilting salinity here, citrus, mango and pear, soft waves of white pepper, touch of mint leaf, steely finish, a great quality white in the vintage. If you'd like a dash of history with your wine note, it was Bruno Prats who planted the white vines in 1970 as he was manager of Château Margaux at the time. Harvest August 18-23, 14hl/h yield, Philippe Bascaules director.
