This monopole vineyard covers half a hectare, with some of the vines almost 100 years in age (planted in 1929). Mid-slope and facing southeast, the village site has deep, clay-rich soils with gravel, sitting just below Premier Cru Cazetiers and neighbouring another monopole village site, Clos du Château, farmed and produced by Armand Rousseau. Charles van Canneyt noted how managing the surrounding woodland (in particular removing some trees) had totally changed the site – bringing better airflow and more sunlight to the vineyard. His first vintage is scented, with bright and lush dark red-berry fruit, alongside iris and violet florals. The palate is vibrant and juicy, but with a fine-grained grip – nubuck-like tannins that frame the fruit, while there’s a savoury, saline note on the long finish.

The 2025 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos des Chezeaux is a monopole, also a clos, where Charles van Canneyt will construct the winery. It is located just below Cazetiers. The 2023 has a very ripe bouquet with black cherries and touches of menthol. The palate is quite structured with sweet black fruit, a fine bead of acidity and a little chewiness on the finish. Fine.
Attractive aromas of cherries, sweet dark berries and peony introduce the 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos des Chézeaux, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively palate built around sweet, powdery tannins. This well-situated vineyard surrounds the domaine's historic buildings, below premier cru Cazetiers. The 2023 vintage is the first that Charles van Canneyt has produced at Domaine des Chézeaux, which he an his wife Anne-Sophie Gagey acquired recently. Sharecropping agreements with Ponsot, Berthaut and René Leclerc were concluded, so van Canneyt is now farming the parcels and making the wines. The winemaking approach is much the same as at Hudelot-Noëllat.
A cool, brooding and reticent nose only grudgingly allows a brief glimpse of it dark berry and very earthy scents. The delicious and vibrant medium weight flavors conclude in a firm, serious, youthfully austere and rustic finale where the only nit is a hint of warmth. Drink from 2035.

This Gevrey-Chambertin property was founded in 1982 but the vines were leased to other producers. As of 2021, that’s all changed, with Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat’s Charles van Canneyt and his wife Anne-Sophie having purchased the property. This is undoubtedly an address to watch.
