Punteggio 92/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2014

The best of these three wines, the 1999 Barolo Bricco Rocche has held up relatively well. Here too, the flavors are a bit forward, but all of the components seem to be aging at more or less the same pace. Overall, the Bricco Rocche is a solid effort for this era at Ceretto. (AG)

Medium ruby. The Bricco Rocche is another potent effort from this house. It displays earthy, tarry aromas along with perfumed sweet red fruit and mineral nuances that occasionally make an appearance before being overwhelmed by a wall of new oak tannins. A second bottle was noticeably more advanced and provided some insight into how this wine might age. That bottle was beautiful and suggested a very classic, ethereal Barolo of notable length. That said, it remains egregiously overpriced for the quality.

The 1999 Barolo Bricco Rocche, penetrating, tarry, and with notes of saddle leather on the nose, is rounder than the Prapo but well extracted, with an attractive density of texture and well delineated kirsch and anisette flavors. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018. Importer: Veuve Cliquot, New York, NY; tel. (212) 888-7575

Medium red. Complex, ripe aromas of cherry, plum, marzipan, dried rose, earth and peppery spices. Big, lush and expansive but adamantly dry. A very full, layered Barolo with lovely vinosity and balance. Finishes with lush, very fine but strong tannins and insinuating, impressively persistent flavor. Possesses more than enough material to handle the 100% new barriques A superb bottle. According to Alessandro, this cuvee is Ceretto's most complete Barolo, typically combining the character of the Brunate and Prapo.
