Glass-staining, violet color. Mineral-inflected black and blue fruits on the perfumed nose, along with olive paste, exotic spice and floral nuances. Appealingly sweet and penetrating in the mouth, offering chewy boysenberry, kirsch and fruitcake flavors that are supported by a core of juicy acidity. Chewy tannins add shape to an impressively long, smoky finish that strongly echoes the floral and mineral notes.

Leading off the 2019s from bottle and first given the name Les Chailles in 2003, the base 2019 Cornas Les Chailles comes from multiple terroirs (Combe, Les Saveaux, Cayret, Les Mazards, Chaillot, and Chapuzes) and was destemmed and aged 18 months in used barrels. This inky hued effort offers textbook Voge aromas and flavors of red and blue fruits, violets, iron, and peppered game. Medium to full-bodied, textured, and nicely structured, it can be enjoyed today but will benefit from just a handful of years in the cellar and have 15 to 20 years of overall longevity.
The 2019 Cornas les Chailles comes across as slightly weird on the nose, accented by hints of boiled egg. Despite being medium to full-bodied, it's a bit crisp on the palate, lacking breadth and concentration. Even allowing for it being entry-level cuvée blended from several parcels, it's a bit disappointing in the context of this exceptional vintage.
