The 2021 Veracity is lifted and perfumed, with confectioners' spice and lavender tones making way for crushed blackberries and dried roses. It flows across the palate with textures of pure silk and intense red berry fruits, as cedary spice adds gripping tension toward the close. Staining and incredibly long, the 2021 resonates with a coating of fine tannins and a raspberry concentration that lingers on and on. The Veracity is a complex, age-worthy blend of 43% Mourvèdre, 34% Grenache and 23% Syrah.

The 2021 Veracity comes from all three of Epoch's estate vineyards: Paderewski (73%), York Mountain (14%) and Catapult (13%). It's an elegant, dangerously easy-to-drink blend of 43% Mourvèdre, 34% Grenache and 23% Syrah matured for 17 months in 20% new French oak. It takes some time in the glass to reveal aromas of wild berry fruit, mixed tea leaves and graphite. The medium-bodied palate is bursting with gregarious layers of spicy fruit. It balances finely chalky tannins with fireworks of fresh acidity and has a long, juicy finish. 907 cases were made, which will be released in the spring of 2024.

A blend of 43% Mourvèdre, 34% Grenache and 23% Syrah, aged in 20% new puncheons, the 2021 Veracity is another brilliant wine. Deep black and blue fruits, ground pepper, violets, and underbrush notes all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a seamless, layered, incredibly impressive texture, ultra-fine tannins, and good acidity. Epoch continues to pull heavily from their estate Paderewski Vineyard, but they’re also releasing new cuvées from their York Mountain estate as those vines come online. I expect this trend to continue. Looking at the wines reviewed here, I was able to taste all their 2020s now from bottle, and they’ve clearly produced some of the top wines in this challenging vintage. If there’s any smoke in these wines, I was unable to find it, and they have remarkable purity in their aromatics and ripe, polished tannins. I was also able to go through the 2021s with winemaker Jordan Fiorentini, and there are some legit genius wines in here that are as good as anything out there. I’d wager these 2021s are some of the finest wines produced from this estate, and I can’t wait to try them again from bottle next year.
