The 2017 Syrah Concrete Mama (100% Syrah) reveals a deep ruby/purple hue as well as rocking notes of blackcurrants, cured meats, black olives, and peppery herbs. Full-bodied, concentrated, yet seamless on the palate, with terrific tannins, it's a beautiful, singular Syrah from this estate that I suspect will evolve for 10-15 years.

Full medium ruby. Brooding, slightly inky scents of blackberry, bitter chocolate, licorice and violet. Offers a fine-grained texture but also a slight youthful bitterness to its dark berry, violet, black pepper and licorice flavors. Less giving than the Ramparts blend and a bit aggressive on the finish, showing firm tannins, a note of fruity peppercorn and a touch of alcoholic warmth. Comes across as less suave than the 2016 release: will this edgy wine come into better balance with bottle aging? (15.3% alcohol)
