The 2020 Ried Gaisberg 1ÖTW offers a clear, precise and spicy apricot nose with spicy notes of black rock splinters. Lush and savory as well as saline on the palate, with crystalline acidity and almost tropical fruit (passion fruit), this is a very elegant and aromatic, tightly structured yet perfectly balanced and sustainable Gaisberg Riesling with stimulating purity and crystallinity. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in September 2022.

Crystalline rocks. Orange zest, bright tropical aromas (pineapple and star fruit) and deep herbal undertones. Complex and clarion with a lithe structure and smoky minerality. Tropical finish lets in the sea breeze, even as the beach calls from the horizon. (PS)
This has very distinctive blood-orange character that’s not quite like any other Austrian dry riesling that I can remember. Also plenty of nectarine fruit on the generous palate that has a level of generosity that’s rare in this vintage. Like a great ocean liner ploughing through the waves, at the finish it feels unstoppable. Drink or hold.
