The 2016 Condrieu Clos Chanson is also brilliant stuff and has a more exotic style with its citrus blossom, apricot, flowery incense, and tropical aromas and flavors. Deep, medium to full-bodied, thrillingly textured and balanced, it shows the pure, clean, elegant style of the vintage perfectly. It too is ideal for drinking over the coming 4-5 years. Based just south of the town of Condrieu, Andre Perret continues to fashion some of the most profound Condrieu out there. In addition to his top single vineyards, don’t overlook his base Condrieu as it offers incredible quality and classic characteristics year in, year out. In addition to the Condrieu, he makes two elegant Saint Josephs that are closer in style to a Côte Rôtie than a Saint Joseph from the southern part of the appellation.

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2018-2025, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Dec 2018

The 2016 Condrieu Clos Chanson is the only Condrieu Perret puts entirely in oak, but the wood doesn't show in the finished wine. From vines planted in 1960, this is floral and spicy on the nose, followed by a plump, medium to full-bodied palate that manages to be silky and rich while also being fresh and lively. Hints of chalk dust or crushed stone linger on the finish.

(made from vines that were planted in 1960) Light bright yellow. Aromas of ripe nectarine, violet and honey, lifted by vibrant smoky mineral and ginger nuances. Broad and velvety on the palate, offering densely packed yet lively orchard and pit fruit and melon flavors that become smokier and spicier with air. The nectarine note comes back emphatically on the impressively long finish, which shows no rough edges.
