The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru has quite an intense bouquet with orange sorbet, mint and green apples, well-defined and powerful. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry with a smack of sea salt, good acidity with an almost Meursault-like finish that lingers in the mouth. Maybe not a Les Combettes of immense longevity, but there is breeding here. - Neal Martin

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes reveals attractive aromas of pear, orange oil, toasted hazelnuts and pastry cream. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a richer, more textural and more concentrated profile than the Folatières, differences of both site and vine age being at play here.

Farmed by the Dujacs but not owned by them so it can still be labelled as a domaine wine. Higher than Folatières. Tank sample. ‘At last normal yields after previous hail and frost’, sighs Jeremy Seysses: 45 hl/ha. But court-noué is reducing yields. Tank sample. Riper and more intense fruit on the nose compared with Les Folatières but still pure citrus. Tight, stony, chewy/chalky. So much in the texture here. All in finesse and length on the palate. Piercing freshness and mineral/stony dry finish. (JH)
