A blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Sweet and rich and complex. Lots going on here per penny. Serious stuff. Slow burner. (JR)

(a 40/39/14/7 blend): Good deep red. Aromas of plum, dark cherry, cassis and tobacco are lifted by a floral topnote. Quite aromatic on the palate, with intense berry and tobacco flavors complicated by chocolate, herbs and a distinctly gamey syrah element. Flowers and sexy oak (one-third new) add complexity to this plush, broad wine. Finishes classically dry, with serious, tooth-dusting tannins and excellent savory length.
40% Shiraz, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot, 7% Merlot. Winemaker: Luke Ocuinneagain, age 32. Sweet toasty oak initially. Malted chocolate. Then much more coal-like and dry on the palate, giving refinement in both texture and flavour. Savoury, dry, long and elegant, with the tell-tale refreshing leafiness of SA Cabs. Quite a firm grip and VGV . (JH)
The 2008 Grand Vin de Glenelly is a blend of 40% Shiraz, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot and 7% Merlot raised in one-third new oak. It has a slightly muted bouquet with mulberry, blackberry, cedar and dried herbs that are finely tuned and quite Old World in style. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins and brittle blackberry and boysenberry fruit that lead to an attractive, vivacious citrus-driven finish. This is a well-crafted Stellenbosch red. Drink 2013-2020. Importer: Cape Classics, New York, NY; tel.(212) 686-1300
