Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2010-2020, Robert Parker, Dec 2010

The dark ruby-colored 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa exhibits abundant aromas of earthy, berry fruit intermixed with black currants, tobacco leaf and spice. Enjoy this medium-bodied, supple, seductive Cabernet over the next 7-10 years. Some time ago Bo Barrett and his dad, Jim, decided that they needed to produce a less expensive, more supple textured Cabernet Sauvignon for consumers and restaurants looking for immediate gratification. That goal has been met very nicely by their Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, which is blended with some Merlot. All the fruit comes from the Calistoga appellation. Tel. (707) 942-5105; Fax (707) 942-4221

(includes 8% merlot) Deep ruby. Medicinal blackberry and licorice on the nose, plus a whiff of band-aid. Densely packed and sweet on entry, then juicy and tight in the mid-palate, with a slightly metallic medicinal quality to the dark berry and bitter chocolate flavors. The edgy tannins call for at least 12 to 18 months of patience. This is mostly from purchased fruit but also includes some declassified estate fruit. Bo Barrett told me he looks for "a football-shaped palate."

Good ruby-red. Crushed cassis, blueberry and violet on the slightly inky but vibrant nose. Dry, broad and backward; dense and lush but not as sweet or open-knit as the 2006. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins that arrive late.
