A blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah, the 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes was fermented entirely with whole clusters and matured for 15 months in demi-muids, with 30% new oak. It soars from the glass with very ripe and almost cooked aromas of raspberry, strawberry and black plum, mingling with scents of dried thyme, licorice, cloves, leather and tobacco. Full-bodied, muscular and insanely concentrated, this is your hardcore version of a distinctively modern-styled Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which is not particularly invested in traditionalists rolling their eyes. The blockbuster 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Chante le Merle Vieilles Vignes is a big, hulking wine, loaded with minty-stemmy notes and dark, plummy fruit. Allspice and salted licorice provide additional nuance, making it more than just a powerhouse, but it is a full-bodied, tannic wine that will need time in the cellar.
Lush, refined, silky and fresh, the wine is already a treat to taste. Though, if you give it a few years in the bottle you are going to find even more ripe, red plums, flowers, smoke, licorice, kirsch and earth. Balanced, elegant and richly textured, this is going to age and evolve for 15 to 20 years. with ease Drink from 2024 - 2038
The old vine cuvée, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes is 85% Grenache and 15% Mourvèdre brought up mostly in foudre, with a small portion in demi-muids. Its deep ruby hue is followed by a stunning array of ripe black raspberry and cherry fruits as well as ground pepper, Provençal garrigue, sandalwood, and exotic spices. Beautiful on the palate as well, it's medium to full-bodied and has a layered, rich, concentrated mouthfeel, building, firm tannins, and outstanding length. It will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and shine for two decades.
