The 2021 Merlot Stags Leap District brings a touch more richness. Blackberries, darker cherries, iron, tobacco, and truffle all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied, has good mid-palate concentration, and outstanding length.

Rutherford Hill's 2021 Merlot offers up scents of newly mowed hay and ripe cherries, framed by hints of mocha and vanilla. While medium to full-bodied, it's lacks depth and richness, yet it still finishes tannic and astringent. Will it come around further is the open question.
This offers notes of dark plums, blackberries, dark licorice, dried violets and moist bark. Full-bodied with firm tannins and a spiced, dark-fruited core in the middle. Lingering and slightly earthy at the end. Better from 2026.
