Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2025-2038, Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous, Jun 2023

A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre, the 2019 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Quet aged in a combination of old oak barriques and concrete tanks. It displays aromas of strawberry jam, raspberry and black cherry compote, over-ripe plum, garrigue and cured meat. Slightly coarse tannins structure this full-bodied, super concentrated red, kept in check by bright acidity. It is a solid wine but the lack of elegance prevents it from meriting a higher score.

My favorite of this estate's offerings this year is the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet, an 80-20 blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre selected from three lieux-dits: Boislauzon, Gardiole and Palestor. While the nose includes some fresh, herbal hints, they add a pleasant nuance to the dark-berried fruit (black cherries, verging on surmaturité) and a hint of chocolate. Full-bodied, rich and supple, this lovely wine finishes long and softly tannic.

The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Du Quet checks in as 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre brought up mostly in concrete, yet with 10% in old barrels. It's another heavenly, monster of a wine from this estate that boasts a dense ruby/plum color as well as a kaleidoscopic array of red and black fruits, Provençal garrigue, ground pepper, cured meats, and new saddle leather. Uber-rich, full-bodied, and incredibly concentrated, yet never heavy, it has a thrilling multi-dimensional texture, loads of tannins, and a heavenly finish. Hedonism at its pinnacle and a Châteauneuf du Pape lover’s dream, it will probably merit a triple digit rating in 4-5 years and have 25+ years of ultimate longevity.
