2013 Weinbach - Pinot Gris Altenbourg

Grown on limestone and clay soils, and picked with more botrytis than the Cuvée Sainte Catherine, the 2013 Pinot Gris Altenbourg shows a clear, ripe and intense nose with ripe fruit aromas, lemon perfume, and some discreet and noble botrytis aromas. Round, dense, intense and highly elegant on the palate, this is a complex, powerful, and very well-structured wine with pronounced mineral acidity/salinity and fine tannins. The acidity is quite high (6.62 total acidity) and lends a certain piquancy and purity to the wine, which finishes quite dry and mineral, although with 20.7 grams of residual sugar it is virtually a medium-dry Pinot Gris. However, the sweetness can only be tasted in the very first attack on the palate, whereas the mineral finish gives a rather dry impression.
