Tasted blind. First bottle was out of sorts but the second bottle also seemed sub-par. A slightly strange aroma – salt-and-vinegar crisps? – a bit green and hard on the palate, softened by the creamy texture. Mouth-watering finish. (JH)

The 2020 Les Champs Libres was tasted from two bottles, the first so blowsy that we called for the back-up. The second is fresher on the nose, with pressed white flowers and noticeable creamy oak that should be subsumed with time. The palate is also fresh on the entry with quite a heavy layer of oak, turning reductive toward the finish. It’s a little "made" in the winery, although it is still quite attractive. Based on 100% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2020 Guinaudeau Vignerons Les Champs Libres Blanc is light gold and offers a much deeper, more layered, complex profile, with gorgeous melon, beeswax, white flowers, and crushed stone all emerging with time in the glass. Medium-bodied, concentrated, and beautifully balanced, it's a magical white that I wish every reader could taste. It will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for well over a decade.
