Bright crimson without much development. Quite exotic ripe aromas – though nothing as subtle as a bouquet. Very sweet and exotic – I’d love to see these 2003s mixed in a blind tasting with some California Pinots. Very rich and long and sweet. Not sure there’s any need to pay the extra for the ‘superior’ 2003s as the village wine exhibits so much of the same build and I suspect you won’t get the full subtle bottle development that you will in most vintages. Good medium red. Roasted strawberry, musky coffee and mocha on the nose; decadent in a 2003 way. Sweet, silky and fine-grained, with warm yet reasonably fresh red fruit flavors. Very concentrated. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins. This may eventually merit a higher rating.
Good deep red. Reduced aromas of smoky oak, fresh blood and spices. Sweet, lush and dense for this cuvee, with strong cherry and spice flavors. But at 14% alcohol (potential alcohols in 2003 ranged from 12.5% to 14%), this verges on heavy. Finishes with substantial ripe tannins.
