The 2014 Barolo Brunate is another very pretty wine from Rinaldi. In 2014, the Brunate doesn't quite have the breadth and textural resonance it typically offers, but otherwise the dark character of Brunate comes through nicely. A host of wild black cherry, spice, leather and balsamic-infused notes develop in the glass. It will be interesting to see if the 2014 gains a bit more weight with time in bottle. Today, the wine is a bit compact and tightly wound, even by Rinaldi standards.

The 2014 Barolo Brunate (with 10,000 bottles made) is a more robust and gutsy wine next to Francesco Rinaldi & Figli's Cannubi expression. The Brunate offers bolder fruit intensity, coupled with more prominent oak tones of spice, smoke and campfire ash. But like the other new releases from this estate, the wine finishes on a dry, astringent note that will probably never fully integrate even with extended cellar aging.
Barolo. Tasted blind. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Soft, subdued yet concentrated and with a touch of cherry confiture. Aromatic cherry palate with a good dose of tart acidity. Still embryonic but well balanced. (WS)
