DuMOL fashions three noteworthy Syrahs which probably receive less attention than they should because of the winery’s high visibility and credibility for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The 2012 Syrah Russian River (1,060 cases aged in 30% new French oak hogsheads for 17 months prior to being bottled unfiltered) exhibits meaty, black olive tapenade, roasted herb, blackcurrant, blackberry and pepper characteristics. This complex, gamey, full-bodied Syrah is bursting with explosive levels of fruit and glycerin. Drink this French-styled stunner over the next decade or more.

The 2012 Syrah presents a compelling range of black fruit, smoke, incense, tobacco, licorice and savory herbs. A rich, powerful wine, the 2012 hits the palate with stunning depth and richness. The style here is a bit riper and more immediate than the single-vineyard Syrahs. There is plenty of personality in the glass. What a gorgeous and promising wine this is.
