Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2015-2029, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2015

The 2004 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is just beginning to show the early signs of tertiary development, but it also has more than enough depth and tannic backbone to age well for another decade plus. Crushed rose petals, dark red stone fruits, sweet spices and mint lend considerable nuance and complexity to the lifted, expressive finish. The 2004 spent two years in French oak barrels, 20% new.

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2013-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2007

The estate's 2004 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is made in a slightly sweeter, but more linear, style than the Margheria. It reveals a concentrated expression of the hallmark qualities of this Castiglione Falletto vineyard in its perfumed aromatics, ripe red cherries, menthol and baking spices. With air the wine turns more muscular as it gains volume and depth in the glass. This is a beautiful and refined Bricco Fiasco from proprietor Luigi Scavino.

Readers looking for a first-rate Barolo producer whose pricing has remained very fair need look no further than the wines of Azelia and proprietor Luigi Scavino. These are among my favorite wines to drink, especially in restaurants, where they don’t suffer from the larger markups that accompany some of the region’s better known bottlings. Good full medium red. Reticent, subdued nose hints at plum, menthol and mint. Lush and sweet, with good vinosity to the flavors of marzipan and cinnamon. In a firm style, finishing with solid tannic grip and lingering flavor. Makes the basic bottling seem dry by comparison. Rather suave for a wine from this village and estate.
