Note di degustazione
The 2000 Barolo Pajana needs to be drunk within the next few years. The aromas are already quite forward, while the fruit has begun to drop out, exposing tannins that are accentuated by copious French oak. Several bottles were all at similar points in their development. It looks like the hot vintage did not favor this south-facing site in Monforte.

Domenico Clerico’s 2000s have not fared as well as I had hoped. Curiously, wines from my cellar were fresher than bottles I tasted in Italy.
Deep red. Nutty oak and marzipan on the nose. Lush, sweet and forward, in the style of the vintage. Shows distinct signs of surmaturite, with rather low acidity. Notes of tobacco, chocolate and underbrush. Finishes with substantial but slightly drying tannins.
This one's charms passed me by on this occasion unfortunately. Autumn mulch on the nose. Extremely tough tannins. Mid palate weight and very earth-bound. No, not exciting on this showing. (JR)
