Marchesi di Barolo's 2010 Barbaresco is a lovely wine with tons of early appeal. Crushed flowers, raspberries, spices and menthol all flesh out in the glass. This is an unusually open, pliant Barbaresco for the vintage. I am sure the 2010 will find many fans, as it is drinking beautifully today. It's great to see Marchesi doing such a terrific job with their entry-level wines.

Just mid ruby and youthful. Pretty cherry and tea-leaf nose. Brooding palate and not yet open. Compact tannins and ripe fruit. Very young and in need of more age. Promising. (WS)
The 2010 Barbaresco offers a classic portrait of a beautiful wine in a celebrated vintage. There’s not much to criticize here: The fruit is fleshy and lively, the aromas are intense and well-defined, and the finish is long and juicy. There’s a playful dusting of white pepper that works exceptionally well to add focus and overall sharpness. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. Centrally located in Barolo village, Marchesi di Barolo is a reliable producer of consistent, traditional red wines. Importer: Frederick Wildman and Sons, New York, NY; tel. (212) 355-0700
