2003 Josef Leitz Rudesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Spätlese

Spectacularly floral nose which, with its subsidiary apple and slate elements, almost suggests a great Mosel riesling. In the mouth, a complex melange of tropical and pit fruits, honeyed melon, flowers and stone wafts back and forth in an elegant display. Not only does all of the sweetness on exhibit here seem to fit the wine's drippingly ripe fruit and heady florality, but there is more than enough wet stone and saline minerality to achieve counterpoint and balance. Long, soothing, sweet yet mineral-saturated finish. 2 stars.
