Mid to deep garnet. Meaty and fresh! Lovely stuff. Spicy with a beginning, middle and end. Dry finish. Maybe not the most luscious or sweet Grenache but very well made. (JR)

Made from the fruit of bush vines planted in sandy soils in 1946 by the Jackson Family Australian outpost . Mid crimson. Smells oakier than the rest. Pretty concentrated rather than transparent. I wonder whether the 2017 will be made in the same style of whether there has been some evolution? Excellent fruit but the style seems just a tad old fashioned. Marked acidity doesn't quite seem to be integrated. (JR)

Attractive flinty reduction on the nose and loads of ripe black fruit. Extremely tough tannic grip – very punchy and furry on the palate. Surprising how inaccessible this is – really needs some bottle age. Definitely has the fruit purity to last. (RH)

The 2013 Grenache High Sands is perfumed and floral, and this perfume translates seamlessly on the palate in the cavalcade of dried rose petals, pomegranate molasses and sweet roasted meat crust. This is brooding and yet fresh. It will have quite the personality on it in a decade and beyond; for now, it is teetering on that precipice edge of aging, one where it is possible to see where the characters came from and where they are going too. 14.8% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
