Note di degustazione
Brilliant ruby. Pungent cherry and blackberry aromas are complemented by suggestions of candied licorice, violet and allspice. Gently chewy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry, dark berry preserve and floral pastille flavors that turn livelier as the wine stretches out. Deep but energetic as well, showing fine detail and spicy lift on an impressively long finish framed by fine-grained tannins. 20% whole clusters and 25% new French oak.

Selected lots from the estate vineyard on east-facing slopes of red basalt Jory, Geldermann and Nekia soils on a volcanic base cooled by winds funnelled by the Van Duzer Corridor. Mid garnet. Open, flirtatious nose and gentler texture than the Avni 2018 though there is more underneath waiting to bubble up into something really quite complex. Serious wine that is very far from any sweet, jammy Pinot. Lots of complexity on the finish; a real fan of flavour. Needs understanding within the lexicon of world Pinots rather than comparison with the Oregon Pinot norm. (JR)
