2015 Fontaine-Gagnard - Chassagne-Montrachet Grande Montagne 1er Cru

Bright, light yellow. Aromatic scents of lemon oil, mirabelle , crushed stone and spices. A step up in texture and concentration from the preceding premier crus, offering generous flavors of yellow peach and spices. Finishes impressively long and lively. This wine comes from stony hillside soil but the vines here were not stressed owing to their deep roots, Fontaine maintains.

The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Grands Montagne suffered less frost damage in 2016 because of its proximity to the trees, however it suffered a little burning of the grapes in the 2015 vintage due to the stones reflecting the heat. The nose is gentle at first, unfolding with light waxy, resinous aromas. The palate is nicely balanced with good acidity, though perhaps the Clos des Murees has more complexity and tension, more personality towards the finish.
