The 2015 Pinot Noir Ryan's Plow comes from Seven Springs and Black Walnut vineyards in the Dundee Hills and is the first vintage from Lingua Franca. It has savory aromas of tar, burnt orange peel, licorice and potpourri with a core of cranberry, red cherry and pomegranate. The light-bodied palate is chalky and fresh with approachable, earthy fruit. It's surprisingly youthful and will continue to develop savory complexity in bottle over the next decade.

Vivid red. Sexy, assertively perfumed aromas of fresh red fruits, candied flowers and five-spice powder; cola and licorice notes add deeper character. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering raspberry, blood orange and rose pastille flavors and a touch of spicy white pepper. In a fresh, exuberant style, carrying no excess fat. Smooth tannins sneak in slowly to add shape and grip to the impressively long, focused finish.
The wine I tasted last year. 40% fifth crop from a Ryan Hanniford and Lafon planting for Evening Land. Calera clone farmed biodynamically. Mid garnet with almost a ruby hue. Very complex nose with great depth. Dry end – real lip-smacking savour. Most impressive, (JR)
