I found this a bit dull – perhaps in contrast to those exciting 1999s. Very dark and chewy and solid – not fresh, though without the besetting sin of the 1996s of too much acidity... (JR)

Produced from vines in the southern most sector of the grand cru Corton vineyard (Les Combes), near the base of the hill, the medium-to-dark ruby colored Le Corton reveals an herbal, and black fruit-scented nose. This complex, rich, and deep wine is medium-to-full-bodied, silky, and well-made. Layers of dark cherries, blackberries, and roasting spices can be found in its delicious flavor profile. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2005. The score, on a range and in parentheses, indicates that the wine was tasted from barrel.
