Shaded ruby with a pale rim. Quite evolved. So sweet it’s almost candified. Rather soft. (JR)

Erwan Faiveley served this at his wedding. He took over in 2005 and in 2008 brought in Jérôme Flous as technical director so this was one of his first wines. From a very ripe vintage. The >36-ha Échezeaux has 50 owners! Faiveley own 0.8 ha of thin soil over rock in Orveaux (only the lower part is classified as a grand cru, the rest is a Vosne premier cru). The vintage tended to produce low-acid, very fruity wines – not unlike 2019. Pale shaded ruby. Fully mature with notes of raspberry and rhubarb and something autumnal. Headily scented and with obvious depth of flavour but not extract. Nothing heavy. Really flattering and vibrant with an edginess. Almost gamey. Very long. (JR)

Medium red. Very ripe, complex aromas of redcurrant, dried cherry, exotic herbs, spices and truffle. Broad, ripe and seamless, with nicely integrated acidity and pepper and spice notes giving shape and lift to the sweet middle palate. Finishes classically dry and very long, with a saline quality and a strong element of botanical herbs. Very sexy wine with excellent energy for the vintage.

Dark and ripe with a touch of spice. Sweet dark fruit. Surprisingly soft and approachable though there’s enough structure for a good life ahead.(JH)
