The 2019 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru has a taut, perhaps relatively conservative bouquet, with just a hint of oatmeal in the background, though undoubtedly well-defined. The palate is well-balanced. A crisp bead of acidity cuts through concentrated citrus fruit. Quite Chassagne-like in style, like others, what is missing is that lightning tension and mineralité that distinguishes the best wines in this appellation. However, that only begins to be revealed after time in the glass. Decant this. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière opens in the glass with scents of pear, gunflint, musk melon, wheat toast, wet stones and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, ample but controlled, its concentrated core of fruit is underpinned by lively acids and elegantly chalky structure.
The 2019 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru expresses its terroir exquisitely on the nose, displaying wonderful mineralité and precision. The palate is well balanced, with a silver bead of acidity, and tensile from start to finish, yet expanding right at the end with mouthwatering sappiness. I remember this being impressive out of barrel last year, and now in bottle, Lamy has successful translated all that potential. Closure: Diam
