Bright pale yellow. Initially reticent nose opens slowly to reveal exotic orange oil, honey, flowers and rock. Then wonderfully sweet and creamy in the mouth, with tangy tangerine and orange flavors complicated by crushed stone, toast and a leesy nuance. Penetrating stony acidity keeps this wine on message, but the very long finish also boasts superb lingering sweetness and breadth to go with the firm minerality.

More intense on the nose than the straight Chevalier-Montrachet. Creamier but the citrus fruit also more fragrant. Powerful, firmly textured but with neither grain nor grip. (JH)

Pure but tight nose hints at crushed stone and spearmint. Wonderfully rich, full and dense but less aromatically expressive than the "regular" Chevalier-Montrachet, which I find a bit more classic today. This also has terrific fat and creaminess, and spreads out to capture the entire palate, but today I don't find quite the energy or cut of the Chevalier. This very young wine is best on the back end, which displays outstanding mineral persistence.

Discreet wood sets off a slightly riper but otherwise similar nose to the straight Chevalier, which leads to bigger, richer and fuller well-muscled and impressively scaled flavors that culminate in a powerful and beautifully textured finish of simply stunning length. Despite the weight and obvious heft, there is absolutely no sense of heaviness as the underlying minerality imparts a real sense of lift. In a word, terrific. Allen Meadows, Burghound. Jun01,2010
