Deeper, less orange colour than the 1991 and more concentrated with a firmer presence of tannin. Even slightly dry on the end but still a substantial wine. Very clean and fresh. No need to warm this up from cellar cool. Should be great with grouse tonight. Just a little bit of very fine sediment in the bottom of the bottle. (JR)

Mid ruby. Firm and fresh with initial tannins now fully resolved. Some sweetness but no longer Hermitage majesty except on the very long finish. Satisfyingly savoury with some dryness but only medium weight on the palate. That finish is pretty impressive though. (JR)
Pale ruby. Definitely old and light bodied with a whiff of decay and past its best alas. Light and lightly leathery. Tastes more like a Côte Rôtie than a Hermitage. (JR)
Drinking at point, yet with plenty of life left, the 1990 M. Chapoutier Hermitage La Sizeranne yields beautifully complex aromas of currants, roasted meats, lavender, ground pepper, and tobacco. Integrated, medium-bodied, and silky, with beautiful balance and plenty of length, this is in a great spot, without any upside, yet should continue to shine for upwards of another decade.
