Lurid ruby. Pungent, mineral-accented cherry and black raspberry scents pick up a spicy accent as the wine opens up. Vibrant red/dark berry flavors are underscored by a vein of juicy acidity, and a suave floral pastille nuance emerges on the back half. Concentrated but lively as well, showing no rough edges on the strikingly long, subtly tannic finish, which emphatically echoes the floral and mineral notes. This wine's marriage of power to finesse is impressive.

The 2016 Côte de Brouilly Les Grillés is excellent, unfurling in the glass with a stunningly projected bouquet of rose petals, candied violets, espresso roast, wild blueberries and ripe cherries. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep and ample, with a generous core of fruit, tangy acids and fine-grained, stony structuring tannins. Anyone looking for proof that Cotton ranks among the region’s élite need look no further.
