Heavier soils than the Clémengeots with some clay . Mid ruby. Perfumed and rather alluring with very well-managed tannins. This is meant to have less finesse than Clémengeots but it is extremely beguiling. Very firm finish but the tannins are not aggressive and everything seems satisfactorily ripe. GV (JR)

The 2013 Marsannay Clos du Roi, which includes 80% whole-bunch fruit, was one of the most introverted on the nose when Sylvain served it from barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with a linear, quite saline entry. This is a Marsannay with a steely stare: very focused and intense with quite a serious, spicy finish with pomegranate notes on the aftertaste. Very fine but keep it a couple of years in the cellar.
