Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2018-2019, Richard Hemming MW, jancisrobinson.com, Sep 2018

Lemon curd, beeswax, a twist of herbal character and a very dry, textural, lengthy palate. Long and substantial on the finish. (RH)

Only four barrels made. Iron soils. First single bottling vintage was in 2014 and increased slowly. Some Palomino, Crouchen, Sémillon, Muscat, False Pedro (the Portuguese variety Galego Dourado ) interplanted in 1968 to less than 10% of the whole, the rest is Chenin Blanc. Broad and salty nose. Very open – even a little honeyed – but much denser and deeper than the average Cape Chenin Blanc. Really chewy on the end. Savoury Chenin! A Chenin that needs a knife and fork. (JR)

Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2020-2032, Neal Martin, Aug 2018

The 2017 Hoë-Steen Chenin Blanc comes from tall bush vines and marks the first time that David has worked with the entire vineyard, which is two hectares in size. The fragrant bouquet offers well-defined yellow plum, caramelized pear, peach skin and waxy aromas. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity and very harmonious; the Palomino and Muscat impart spiciness and hints of curry leaf toward the very harmonious finish. This is totally seductive.
