2022 Outpost Immigrant True Vineyard

A terrific wine, as well as a wine you could put up with the top wines in the vintage, the 2022 True Vineyard Immigrant brings more concentration and depth than most in the vintage and has a pure, medium to full-bodied, incredibly impressive style. Black plums, sweet cassis, dark chocolate, and a hint of iron all define the aromatics, and I love its overall balance as well as its beautiful tannins and great finish. It has a touch of 2019-like character and should have 15+ years of prime drinking.

The 2022 Immigrant True Vineyard, Outpost’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot co-ferment, is terrific. Super-ripe blueberry, blackberry jam, chocolate, licorice and a dollop of new oak convey notable textural and flavor intensity. The 2022 is a decidedly heady and intense wine. All of this fruit was picked on October 30, in other words very late. The only thing the 2022 is missing is a bit of mid-palate resonance, likely due to a combination of the growing season and a heavy reliance on Cabernets in the blend this year. In tasting, the 2022 is very much Cabernet-driven in both its flavor and structural profile.
