The 2003 Beau-Séjour Bécot was picked between 13 to 25 September. Now, I was quite surprised by the aromatics here since they are much fresher and more vital than I was expecting given the heat of that summer. Pretty red fruit laced with orange blossom, there is something almost Burgundy-like in personality. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, surprisingly good acidity, a modicum of freshness with pretty red cherries and allspice towards the finish. It deserves a round of applause and comes recommended for the vintage. Tasted at the château.

Attractive notes of black currants, fruitcake, cedarwood and loamy soil intermingled with kirsch and blacker fruits emerge from this dense ruby/purple-tinged 2003. Medium- to full-bodied with fully resolved tannins as well as good freshness and precision, it can be enjoyed over the next decade.
Good full red. Mellow, enticing aromas of coffee and mocha. Silky, sweet and fat, but with good energy from the limestone soil giving shape to the cherry, currant, graphite and earth flavors. This boasts excellent balance for the year, with nicely integrated acids and supple, fine tannins. An excellent showing.
