Very pretty and refined, the 2004 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard offers up solid aromatics of ripe Syrah fruit, black olive, smoked meats and hot asphalt that are supported by a serious mineral and crushed stone backbone. While this doesn’t display the complexity of the ’99 Chaillot or the sheer depth of the ’06 Reynard, it’s stunning none the less. Medium to full bodied in the mouth, it has a layered, silky texture, dense fruit, perfect balance and tannic core that comes through on the finish. I’d opt for letting these sit in the cellar for another 2 to 3 years and then drink over the next 10 to 12.

Dark purple. Ripe, potent cassis and blueberry scents, with a striking floral quality. Lush and creamy, showing impressively pure dark fruit flavors, juicy acidity and fine-grained, silky tannins. Finishes sweet, supple and with superb length, the sweet berry notes clear and persistent. No sulfur was used for this cuvee

Allemand’s wines set the benchmark for Cornas: expressive Syrahs crafted with uncompromising traditional methods and released in tiny quantities. From the 1980s, he revived abandoned vineyards on Cornas’s steep granite slopes, building his domaine without inherited land or financial support.
