Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2025-2040, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Jul 2024

The 2021 Chardonnay EGW comes from grapes harvested September 10–24. The wine was matured for 12 months in 51% new Chassin and Damy oak plus an additional six months in stainless steel. It's bright and spicy on the nose, with lemon, white pepper and integrated new oak spices slowly giving way to deeper tones of jasmine and spring honey. The medium-bodied palate pairs a mouth-coating texture with taut acidity. Its flint-laced citrusy layers are pure yet tightly coiled, and it will benefit from cellaring. 304 cases were made.

The 2021 Chardonnay EGW lifts with a savory blend of crushed peaches, freshly clipped mint and hints of wet stone. Opening with a pretty inner sweetness, this displays a lovely balance of ripe orchard fruits and savory minerals, all propelled by stimulating acidity and a hint of sour citrus. Long and potent, the EGW finishes with an herbal tinge, leaving a pleasant bitterness on the mid-palate. A blend of Dijon and Original 108 Wente clones from the Chehalem Mountain vineyard.

Similar in appearance, the 2021 Chardonnay EGW (“Extra Good White”) takes on a touch more flinty reduction, with a great balance of ripeness and tension in its notes of ripe peach, lemon zest, and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, it has a beautiful waxy texture but the acidity to cleanse the palate. Citrus oils, almond, and more mouthwatering freshness can be found on its long finish along with a lacy note of custard. Drink 2024-2034. 00 Wines, founded by husband-and-wife duo Katherine and Christopher Hermann, exclusively produce Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. They derived the name “00” from numerology and say it represents true and absolute potential. Their first vintage was in 2015, and in 2017 they moved to a shared winemaking facility that they operate out of today. Katherine takes charge of the creative direction with packaging and communications. Her background in marketing brought her to New York City and Boulder, Colorado, working for technology startups, before arriving in the Willamette Valley. Prior to establishing 00 Wines, Christopher was a legal advisor for nearly 40 years for many of the top names in the wine and spirits industry, practicing environmental law. They are inspired by the great wines of Burgundy and implement many Burgundian techniques, advised by their consultant Pierre Millemann and their winemaker Wynne Peterson-Nerdry. Last year I was not able to taste their reds, but it proved to be well worth the wait. They display another level of purity and depth from truly exceptional sites. Also on the horizon for the 00 Wines team are two relatively new projects in both Burgundy and Champagne, which I will be able to share with our readers when I taste them in September of this year.
