The apricot-scented 2000 Gewurztraminer Selection de Grains Nobles Hors Choix is a massive, white peach, assorted yellow fruit, and zesty lemon-flavored wine. It has unreal depth to its super-concentrated character. While possessing immense power and a sumptuous core of syrupy fruit, this wine also boasts lively, tangy acidity that renders it brilliantly balanced. It may well be the finest sweet Gewurztraminer I have ever tasted from Trimbach. Projected maturity: now-2025. (this is the same wine as the 2000 gewurztraminer I identified simply as SGN in Issue 97; several tries were done to pick 100% nobly rotten fruit with potential alcohol of 22.5%) Full deep gold. Explosive nose combines cured meats, lichee, honey, exotic spices and a musky, gamey nuance. Like a solid in the mouth, with great purity of fruit and honeyed ripeness. Liqueur-like and downright confectionery (185 grams per liter residual!), but as thick as this is, it also displays great verve and spice character. Explosive, superripe finishing fruits, spices and honey go on and on. A great late-harvest wine, combining racy SGN sweetness and concentration with the class and acidity typical of Trimbach's wines. Also tasted: 2001 Pinot Blanc*.
