Still quite a blueish crimson. Merest hint of acetic on the nose. Good structure for the long term with some reasonably promising embryonic fruit in the middle of the framework. Crunchy and crackling. (JR)

Bright medium red. Dark currant and black cherry aromas are lifted by flowers, spices and stone. Juicy, firm and tightly wound, with lovely perfume to the flavors of red berries, cinnamon and cardamom. Boasts a firm acid/tannin spine without any hardness. Still youthfully withdrawn, even a tad dry, on the back end and in need of at least five years of cellaring.
The 2011 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has a mineral-led bouquet that opens wonderfully in the glass to reveal subtle raspberry leaf and bergamot scents, potpourri emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, grippy tannins, succulent mulberry and black currant notes that line the structured and quite masculine finish. Superb. Drink 2015-2028+. Having been bowled over by the sublime 2012s, the Marie-Christine took me through the domaine’s 2011s, which provided a useful opportunity to compare the two vintages, in particular with respect to the Ruchottes-Chambertin. Good bright medium red. Very reticent nose hints at redcurrant and red licorice. Juicy and rocky on the palate, but showing the rather austere, medicinal side of Clos Vougeot today. Ultimately revealed a silkiness of texture with aeration but the granular tannins give the finish a faint dry edge. In an awkward stage today, a bit closed in on itself.
