The 2013 Barolo Cannubi is a powerful, intense wine, with tons of depth and powerful tannins that are going to need time to soften. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, leather and torrefaction notes give the wine its decidedly brooding personality. Of all the Scavino 2013 Barolos, the Cannubi is the wine that appears most influenced by French oak. Scavino’s Cannubi is usually quite sensual. Today, the 2013 comes across as a bit heavy and monolithic.

Paolo Scavino's 2013 Barolo Cannubi stands apart in its ability to show the finessed characteristics of this special vineyard site. Cannubi is one of the first crus to reach maturity each harvest, and the quality of its fruit is complex, layered and ethereal. This is made abundantly clear in this classic vintage. The wine shows delicate tones of wild berry, balsam herb, dried ginger and white truffle. In the mouth, it moves with sensual and silky grace.
Barolo. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Almost peppery, lifted sweet cherry and soft hints of oak and much richer than the Monvigliero. Firm grainy tannins and succulent fruit that closes up fast. Quite a compact Cannubi, but of real breed. Fine. (WS)
