The 2000 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Clos des Réas has a bright bouquet with lively red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, floral and precise with hints of orange blossom and truffle developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, harmonious and lithe in the mouth with a silky smooth finish that belies its age. This is one of the pleasant surprises of this 2000 horizontal - bravo Michel! Tasted at Sarah Marsh’s 2000 and 2001 horizontal tasting.

The Domaine Michel Gros 2000 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Clos des Réas is strongly marked by new oak, offering up aromas of French roast, weedy cherry and dried currants. On the palate, the wine is sweet, supple and seemingly generously chaptalized, with some grippy barrel tannins clamping down on the finish. I suspect this was quite alluring in its youth, but its best days are behind it.
Pale ruby with an orange rim. Slight coffee and torrefaction on the nose. Sweet and round. Dense and long. Bright and appealing though perhaps not to ultra-purists. Slightly dry on the end. (JR)

The first vintage of Domaine Michel Gros – one of the many Gros family estates in Burgundy – was 1979. The property has several prized vineyards including its monopole Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru, Clos des Réas.
