2017 Vincent & Sophie Morey - Chassagne-Montrachet Les Embrazees 1er Cru

The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embrazées offers up notes of buttered orchard fruit, apricot, fresh mint and crème brûlée, the prelude to a medium to full-bodied palate with fine depth and tension at the core, good concentration, succulent balancing acids and a creditably long finish.

Pale, bright yellow. Reticent nose hints at menthol and white pepper. A step up in richness and density from the Baudines (with the added fat no doubt at least partly due to the older vines), with its flavors of pineapple and ripe pear complicated by an element of positive reduction. This intense wine finishes with a slightly hard lemony edge that calls for a racking. Morey told me that the parcel that originally came to him from his father Bernard was harvested at 13.8% potential alcohol, while the Embrazées vines from his wife's family were a full degree lower.
