Armed with admirable depth and intensity of fruit, this delicious wine offers lush layers of dark fruits before being overtaken by its firm tannic backbone. Full dark ruby. Musky aromas of black licorice, pepper and tiny dark berries. Chewy and primary in the mouth, with a flavor of crushed currant, complicated by notes of mint, herbs and licorice. Painfully backward wine, with strong, building tannins. A bit brutal today.
Very, very ripe on the nose. A bit thick and almost exaggerated ripeness – risky? I’m not 100 per cent convinced at the moment that there is a glorious future for this wine. (JR)
