55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Syrah. Though spring was average, summer arrived late with the first days of full sunshine in June. From then on, the following months were quite sunny. At the beginning of September, night-time temperatures dropped sharply, slowing ripening but favouring the accumulation of tannins in the skins, which as a result were especially rich in this vintage. Harvest between 10 September and 5 October. 23,000 bottles produced. Bright crimson. Positive, assertive, still youthful but seems as though all the ingredients are there in the right proportions. Very perky and well balanced with a long finish. Rich start and a dry finish. Perfect! (JR)

The 2006 Saffredi is the bombastic, kaleidoscopic wine it has always been. In fact at times it resembles a barrel sample, given its superb vibrancy and freshness! Dark wild cherries, herbs, graphite, spices, tobacco and leather come together beautifully in this focused, powerful Saffredi. Today the 2006 is decidedly virile and youthful, but there is no doubt it has the sheer depth of material to drink beautifully to age 20, and likely beyond. The 2006 is a marvelous Saffredi, but patience is required.
Geppetti has produced another gem in her 2006 Saffredi, a French-oak aged blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Alicante. This textured, explosive wine boasts considerable depth and richness in its dark fruit, flowers, minerals and graphite. The wine remains extremely primary and in need of considerable bottle age in order to offer its best drinking but it is unquestionably formidable. The style combines elements of power and elegance, achieving a level rarely seen in these parts. Simply put, this is stunning juice.
